Explore Vilanova & la Geltrú
The city is divided in two parts as the name gives away; Vilanova and (i) La Geltrú. Initially these were two separate entities, but because they are so close to each other, they merged over time. Starting at the promenade along the coastline till the Parish church, Sant Antoni Abat, you will find the Rambla Principal. This esplanade will take you along the most popular shopping street with modernista facades in Vilanova and la Geltrú.

Close to the Sant Antoni Abat church you encounter also the Santa Maria Church and the old Castle of Geltrú of which you can visit the inside court yard. At the heart of Vilanova i la Geltrú, you will find la Placa de la Vila, a romantic square surrounded with arcades, where the monumental city hall is established between various bars where you can enjoy your aperitivo con tapas.

At the port of Vilanova you will not only find the fishermen selling their catch of the day, but also there are plenty of courses and activities to explore. Think of adventurous water sports during the day as diving, rafting, kayak, fishing, canoeing. More activities are available inland, here you can find golf courts, hiking trails or you can go horseback riding. Romantic souls will enjoy their evenings around the harbour with some tapas, regional wine, or maybe some fresh seafood, while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.

Cultural festivities in Vilanova i la Geltrú
One of the those prominent cultural festivals you will encounter in Vilanova i la Geltrú, is the “Festa Major”. This is a celebration of the Virgin of les Neus, the patron saint of the city and kicks off in amazing style with the breath-taking Correfoc. There’s an awe inspiring procession of both fire breathing dragons, dwarfs, and demons wielding torches and the construction of towering human castles (Els Castellers). It winds its way throughout the city amongst the thousands of spectators. You find a lot in this festival, troupes of musicians, folk dancers, bonfires fireworks, traditional processions and many people’s favourites the groups of Gégants which are enormous models of giants created from papier-mâché. The streets and plazas of the city are packed for a week of exciting celebrations. Festa Major attracts visitors from far and wide who wish to come and take in the sights and sounds, and both participate in and experience the joyous summer celebration held in true Mediterranean style.
